Finally catching up!

March 17th, 2008

Sorry to have been off-post for so long.  This past fall, the building I live in was hit with a twister and we have spent nearly four months living in a war zone while repairs were being made.  Everything is finally done…and hurricane season isn’t far away.  Don’t even want to think about that!

What’s coming up for you  to read?  First of all, the long-awaited sequel to Camelot’s Destiny will be released this summer/fall with Highland Press.

Fate of Camelot begins where Camelot’s Destiny left off.  To Lancelot’s dismay, he finds that Morgan le Fey has created the illusion of leaving Gwenhwyfar with him, but has really taken her, along with Arthur, to Avalon.  Things get a little complicated when the horned god, Cernunnos, decides to abduct Gwenhwyfar as his consort and Lancelot faces the daunting task of rescuing her before the Land of Faerie claims her forever.  Galalhad and Peredur’s quest for the Holy Grail are interwoven into the story as well and I think you’ll love the fitting end to Medraut and his evil mother, Morgana!  Look for an excerpt to be up soon on the website.

I’ve also been lucky to get other contracts this year.  Here’s the line-up:

“Capture Her Heart”, a story of an 18th century Scottish sea-captain who abducts a beautiful English lady whose brother is accused of raping the captain’s sister.  He plans to sell her into sexual slavery in Constantinople, but the journey is long…   (Samhain Publishing.  Buy at www.mybooksandmore.com)

Another e-pub story will be published with New Concepts (buy at www.fictionwise.com)   “Night Prey” is an urban fantasy about a female cop and a bounty hunter both seeking the same fugitive.  What they don’t know is that eacch of them is a werewolf and they cross paths in the Everglades.

I am also excited about having four novellas coming out in anthologies for Highland Press.  These will be trade-paperbacks:

Once Upon a Knight anthology:  A Knight’s Duel (historical novella)

Castle of Dreams anthology: Dark Kiss (time-travel/vampire novella)

A Dance of Manners anthology:  Enchanted Journey (Regency novella)

Second Time Around anthology:  Winds of Destiny (contemporary novella)

All of these books can be ordered through your local bookstores as well at www.cafepress.com/highland_press

Happy Reading!

summer heat

August 8th, 2007

It’s been awhile since I’ve been on this blog.  Two national writing conferences plus a trip to Minnesota have kept me hopping.  My second book, “My Noble Knight” is enjoying great success and I am so pleased with the comments I’m getting.  I hope to keep on writing!  The next thing coming up will be a novella “Capture Her Heart” for Samhain Publishing in January, 2008.

It’s been a crazy summer weather-wise.  In South Texas, we had 27 inches of rain in July, which is usually a dry month, and that amount is more that the total for all of 2006.  Half the country seems to be flooded while the other half is baking in heat.

To that effect, I have a wonderful, EASY appetizer that will go well at any pool party:

8 oz sour cream (can be fat free)

8 oz light cream cheese

16 oz cocktail shrimp, drained

1 package of Hidden Valley Ranch dry dressing

Mix everything together and refrigerate for two hours for flavors to blend.  Serve with your favorite crackers.

Hope you all enjoy and try to stay cool.  (in more ways than one!)

Spring News

February 26th, 2007

Hello to all my readers!  If you’ve tried to contact me in December or January, your message did not come through.  There have been some problems with the webmail that weren’t caught until just recently.  So, if you did not hear back from me, that’s why.  My sincere apologies.

Spring has been busy.  The second book, “My Noble Knight” is on schedule for release June, 2007.  If you haven’t already read an excerpt, please do so.  I think you’ll like how the book ends.

I’ve also sold a novella “A Knight’s Duel” to Samhain Publishing.  It should be out early in 2008.  Meanwhile, if you want to read a bit of nostalgic erotica, I have a short story “Night Fever” posted on www.wickedescapesezine.com

I look forward to hearing from you!  Cindy Breeding

Hello, and welcome to my newsletter!

March 12th, 2006

This has really been an exciting year for me! If any of you readers are aspiring writers, or are currently pitching a manuscript that hasn’t sold, you know how frustrating those rejection letters are. (Mine started long ago in high school when I wrote short stories.) Even though some agents/editors take the time to write comments or make suggestions, those letters still say “no” quite clearly. So when a time-travel manuscript was returned to me, I almost didn’t read the accompanying letter that asked to see a complete copy of Camelot’s Destiny. And my first comment when the editor called was “Pardon me?” So if you’re writing, don’t give up.
The Arthurian Legends have always been a love of mine. I think because I was so horse-crazy as a child, the story of Princess Gwenhwyfar riding on a fine white horse to meet King Arthur was what really intrigued me. However, as soon as I was old enough to realize boys really weren’t icky, the ultimate Bad Boy, Lancelot, intrigued me more. What is it with Bad Boys? Even when I was teaching Julius Caesar in high school, I found it hard to present the “correct” theme of the tragic hero, Brutus. The Epicurean, Marc Antony, was always my man!
I have collected well over three hundred books on the Arthurian legends, ranging from non-fiction to historical fiction to the science-fiction/paranormal/time-travels take-offs on the stories. Too often, I have been disappointed in how Lancelot is portrayed. The traditional view is that he betrayed his best friend and king and caused the destruction of the fellowship of the Round Table. Some books have presented him as arrogant and self-centered while others have described him as some sort of wimp who is so besotted by Gwenhwyfar that he follows her around like a lonesome puppy. One book (I kid you not!) took the twist that Lancelot was a woman and Gwenhwyfar a lesbian.
So part of the reason I wrote Camelot’s Destiny was because I wanted to show that Lancelot is really not such a Bad Boy after all. He is a man of strength and valor, deeply torn between his loyalty to Arthur and his love for Gwenhwyfar. I’d love to hear from readers to know if I’ve succeeded!
Camelot’s Destiny is the first book of an intended trilogy. Fate of Camelot is the sequel in which Arthur returns from Avalon, Galahad takes up the Grail quest, and Lancelot must duel with Cernunnos, the horned god of the Wild Hunt, to rescue Gwenhwyfar from her entrapment in the Land of Faerie. Prelude to Camelot is an intentional prequel that describes the lives of Arthur, Gwenhwyfar, and Lancelot as children and takes them to the point where destiny brings them all together. Since neither of these two books is yet under contract, I’d appreciate any comments readers would like to make. I can then pass those on to my editor.
